Punjab Considers Giving Major Relief to Teachers

The government is expected to announce major relief for teachers by ending all non-academic duties assigned to them, according to reliable sources.

Officials said authorities are reviewing a proposal to remove teachers from non-teaching and unrelated assignments, including work related to the Socio-Economic Registry program. The move follows growing criticism from educators who say such duties disrupt classroom learning and undermine the education system’s stability.

Teachers have long argued that being tasked with administrative and survey-related work takes valuable time away from teaching, leaving schools understaffed and students neglected.

Reports indicate that about 10 percent of teachers have already been exempted from Socio-Economic Registry duties through special recommendations. Meanwhile, the government is also considering a plan to pay teachers an additional Rs30,000 per month for any non-academic work they may still be required to perform.

Education officials believe a formal decision will be made soon to ensure teachers can focus exclusively on academic responsibilities.

“This step will restore stability in schools and allow educators to devote their full attention to students’ learning,” one senior education department source said.
