The Punjab government has officially issued a notification announcing an increase in the wages of daily wage workers.
According to the notification released by the Assistant Commissioner (HR), new pay rates have been set for skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled laborers across the province.
Under the revised structure, skilled daily wage workers will now earn Rs. 1,975 per day or Rs. 45,945 per month. Semi-skilled workers will receive Rs. 1,558 per day or Rs. 43,108 per month, while unskilled workers will be paid Rs. 1,538 per day or Rs. 40,000 per month.
Last month, the Punjab Labor and Human Resource Department confirmed that the minimum wage for all workers in industrial and commercial sectors has been officially fixed at Rs. 40,000 per month for 26 working days. The notification further sets the daily wage rate at Rs. 1,538.46 for an eight-hour shift, and the hourly rate at Rs. 192.31.
Employers are allowed to deduct certain allowances by mutual agreement, such as Rs. 100 per meal, Rs. 1,800 for transport, and Rs. 2,000 for accommodation per month.
The government also clarified that any worker already earning higher wages will not see a reduction, and employers may continue to offer higher pay based on skill or experience.
