Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved the establishment of a new industrial estate in Sialkot to boost regional investment and industrial growth.
Chairing a meeting to review ongoing and proposed industrial estates across the province, the chief minister gave in-principle approval for developing the zone on 400 acres of land near Sialkot International Airport.
During the meeting, she also agreed to offer four industrial estates to foreign investors, while those in Bhalwal, Vehari, and Bahawalpur are being considered for Saudi investment. In a key decision, the Chunian Industrial Estate was allocated to the Fisheries Department to promote fish farming and related industries.
Audit reports presented during the meeting revealed several cases of financial mismanagement in the Faisalabad and Punjab Industrial Estates Development and Management Companies. The chief minister directed authorities to take immediate action against those responsible and to strengthen oversight mechanisms.
Maryam Nawaz also ordered a review of existing regulations governing industrial estates to improve transparency and operational efficiency.
She emphasized the government’s commitment to protecting state-owned land, stating that past administrations had ignored corruption and irregularities.
Separately, the chief minister announced the launch of the “E-Biz” portal, which enables investors to apply online for permits, licenses, registration, and land-use conversions, simplifying the business setup process in Punjab.
