The Punjab government is moving ahead with plans to establish the province’s first airline, Air Punjab.
Officials have confirmed that the project is gaining momentum as the working committee has sent a request for one billion rupees in funding to the finance department.
The government has already approved of Air Punjab and is in the process of determining the final budget for the initiative.
According to Express News, the provincial administration plans to lease five aircraft for the new airline. Talks are ongoing with several companies to secure the planes, but the overall cost of the project is still being finalized.
Officials say that a decision on setting up an official air authority or board to oversee the project will be made soon. In the meantime, the Punjab government has submitted an application to the Civil Aviation Authority for an operating license.
Once operational, Air Punjab is expected to create new opportunities for air travel within the province, making it easier for residents to fly to different destinations. The launch of the airline would mark a significant step in Punjab’s efforts to expand its transport infrastructure.
In an era of divestment and privatisation why all this expenditure?
Why make a new government airline? Did the people learn nothing from the fiasco of PIA (which is currently in the process of being privatized)??
On one one hand government is trying hard to sell PIA a state owned airline because government can not operate it profitably but on the other hand Punjab government wants to launch its own airline. Why not Punjab government purchase PIA at a throw away price and operate it
Rubbish, should either contribute this fund to smaller provinces or bigger national projects like dams or for the development of the province as we don’t need another airlines that too in the name of province
A total nonsense waste of money.
Same rulers who ruined the world class Air line PIA, struggling to privatize it, now going to start a new airlines. This is their way of opening new opportunities for corruption and big commissions. Nothing else.

This will be another loss making enterprise, it is such a technical and difficult business that no government in Pakistan can run it profitably.
