Pakistani Students Can Now Study at the University of Tokyo With Full Funding

Pakistani students aiming to pursue higher education in Japan now have the opportunity to apply for the University of Tokyo ADB Scholarship 2026, a fully funded master’s program supported by the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The scholarship covers tuition fees, travel costs, a monthly allowance, medical insurance, and even provides a research or thesis grant.

The program is open to students from ADB member countries, including Pakistan, and offers admission into master’s programs at one of the world’s most prestigious institutions — the University of Tokyo.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the ADB–Japan Scholarship Program (ADB–JSP), applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Must be a citizen of an ADB borrowing member country. (Pakistan included. Check the full list here.)
  • Must hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a recognized institution.
  • Must have at least two years of full-time professional work experience in a relevant field.
  • Must be under 35 years of age at the time of application.
  • Must agree to return and work in their home country for at least two years after completing their master’s degree.
  • Must not hold a master’s degree at the time of application (second master’s applicants are ineligible).
  • Candidates planning to pursue doctoral studies later are advised to apply for the MEXT Scholarship instead.

Documents Required

Applicants must prepare and submit the following documents as part of their online application:

  • Application Form – Use the official GSFS Application Form
  • Field of Study and Research Plan – Describe your proposed academic interests.
  • Academic Transcript – Official or attested photocopy from your bachelor’s program.
  • Certificate of Graduation – Official or attested photocopy of your degree certificate.
  • Two Recommendation Letters – Must be sent directly by referees to the university via email (subject line: “ADB recommendation letter_Applicant Name”).

All documents, except recommendation letters, must be uploaded through the official Google Form by December 10, 2025.

How to Apply

Find a Supervisor: Before applying, identify and contact a potential supervisor within the Graduate School of Frontier Sciences (GSFS) or related departments:

You can list up to five preferred supervisors on your application form.

Submit Application Materials: Upload all required documents (except recommendation letters) to the Google Form by December 10, 2025.

Send Recommendation Letters: Referees must email recommendation letters directly to the International Liaison Office by the same deadline.

Post-Screening Process

  • Initial screening results will be announced by mid-February 2026.
  • Selected applicants must submit original documents by March 20, 2026.
  • Final selections will be confirmed in May 2026, and classes begin on October 1, 2026.
