Thousands of Fish Found Dead in Rawal Dam

Thousands of fish have mysteriously died in Rawal Dam, sparking serious concerns over water quality and public health.

According to reports, the situation has alarmed residents, as the dam’s water is directly supplied to the city. Reports indicate that pollution levels in Rawal Dam have reached dangerous levels, making the water toxic for aquatic life.

A large number of dead fish can be seen floating on the surface of the dam. Locals say that while similar fish deaths occurred during the summer when water levels were low, this time the incident has taken place despite the water level being high.

The foul odor and visible pollution have also frustrated visitors who frequent the dam for recreation. One resident alleged that for several years, untreated sewage from Bani Gala and nearby residential areas has been flowing directly into Rawal Dam.

Experts warn that the contamination threatens not only aquatic species but also the safety of Rawalpindi’s drinking water supply.

It is worth noting that a similar incident occurred last year when thousands of fish reportedly died after toxic substances were released into the dam. Following media coverage at the time, the Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency (Pak-EPA) had launched an inquiry into the matter.
