Aviation Minister Khawaja Asif announced that Pakistan is gearing up to resume direct flights to the United States after receiving long-awaited clearance to operate flights to the United Kingdom.
Speaking to reporters, the minister said that both the national airline and several private carriers have been granted approval to operate routes to Britain, calling it a “major breakthrough” for the country’s aviation sector.
“The approval of national and private airlines for Britain is a very important development,” Asif said. He confirmed that the first flight from Islamabad to Manchester is scheduled to depart on October 25.
He added that multiple private airlines have also shown interest in launching services to the UK, which will strengthen Pakistan’s global air connectivity and benefit travelers through increased competition.
Asif further revealed that progress is being made toward resuming direct flights to the United States, noting that discussions with American aviation authorities have been “positive.”
“Hopefully, permission will be granted soon,” he said, expressing optimism that the government’s efforts to meet international standards and enhance safety protocols will pave the way for expanded global routes.
The minister reaffirmed that the government has already addressed major regulatory challenges, ensuring that Pakistani airlines are fully aligned with global aviation requirements.
