The Punjab Communication and Works Department has officially started groundwork for the construction of major infrastructure projects, including flyovers and underpasses at Kutchery Chowk and Jinnah Park, along with retaining walls at Fatima Jinnah Women University and Jinnah Park.
According to officials, the combined cost of the two flyovers and one underpass stands at Rs. 6.6 billion. The Jinnah Park underpass and flyover project will cost Rs. 5.2 billion, while the Iftikhar Janjua underpass is estimated at Rs. 2.7 billion.
Although construction will begin in the first week of November, pending clearance from the garrison authorities, the provincial highway department has already started work on building retaining walls to facilitate the construction of service roads and the relocation of utility services.
A senior Punjab Highways official said that four kanal and five marla of land will be used for the Iftikhar Janjua underpass, mostly from military property. Similarly, eight kanal and two marla have been allocated for Kutchery Chowk, and five kanal and 19 marla for Jinnah Park underpass.
Additionally, construction on three more underpasses — at Race Course Park, Army Graveyard Square, and Chairing Cross on Peshawar Road — is expected to start within the fiscal year 2025–26, making the route from Ammar Chowk to the motorway signal-free.
Executive Engineer Rana Qamar of the Punjab Highway Department said that work on retaining walls, service roads, and drainage systems at Jinnah Park and Fatima Jinnah Women University has already started, confirming that main road construction will begin next month.

Truly remarkable…. This will make RAWALPINDI much better.
However they should focus on Metro bus service and add 5x more routes and buses.
And work footpaths for walking across RAWALPINDI
There is an article here telling about eighty new buses to start in Pindi.
Road conditions are not such that could absorb volume of eighty buses. First roads capacity and quality should be improved before launching so many buses as this will further mess up traffic conditions and more time consuming travel
Honestly Metro rail service is far better. It could be brought in with public private partnership mode like the one in lahore
Nullah Lay road is much important for Twin cities
Glad Punjab government finally started thinking outside Lahore. Hope they improve the entire province.
All things comes at their own time, same like you cannot eat and Poo at same time. ha ha ha.
Its mainly focused to speeden the traffic near army areas . Not for us peasants
Great. Next up get Nullah Expressway done before 804 gets released.
Separate bicycle tracks along all major roads with trees planted alongside should also be taken into consideration, as it will ease environmental pollution and contribute to more eco friendly and healthy commute.
This is the need of rwp people gov decied a very good decion wel done
Well done C&W department, you are always facilitating Genral public with your work, construction of underpasses and flyover will help a lot to facilitate vehicular traffic and will resolve the traffic congestion problems in Rawalpindi.
Roads, bridges construction is no doubt necessary but prime attention needs to uplift the economic infrastructure for people – establishment of tech, skills teaching facilities. All villages should have at least two technical institutes for girls and boys. Only tech, skills facilities can reduce horrendous youth unemployment. Our big villages are just pre-1947 villages. Rural population joblessness is expanding day by day.
Our Rawat to Kallar syedan road needs to be carpated
PMLN Is first and only one who think about construction maintain neat roads and new transportation facilitations
Don’t me negative guys. Govt should think for metro bus with separate road from Ammanr chowk to motorway rawalpindi.
Very good initiative. A gift by PMLN government for the people of Rawalpindi
