Sindh Approves Rs. 2.89 Billion for Development Projects in Karachi

The Sindh government has approved development funding worth Rs. 2.89 billion for multiple infrastructure and public welfare projects, including the construction of new roads under the Karachi Development Authority (KDA).

The approval was granted during a meeting of the Sindh Cabinet’s Finance Committee on Tuesday, chaired by provincial ministers Nasir Hussain Shah, Ziaul Hassan Lanjar, and Saeed Ghani.

According to official sources, the decision to hand over key infrastructure schemes to the KDA was based on a proposal from the Local Government Department, which raised concerns about the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s (KMC) limited capacity to manage additional projects.

Officials said the move holds major importance as several KDA-led initiatives are already facing delays due to administrative and funding challenges.

The meeting, attended by secretaries from various provincial departments, also assessed requests for both development and non-development budgets while reviewing ongoing financial pressures on social and public service programs.

Among the major approvals, the committee allocated Rs299 million to the Transport Department for purchasing electric bikes for women under a non-ADP (Annual Development Programme) scheme.

Funds were also sanctioned for a water supply project benefiting 35 villages in Gadap Town, Malir, which will draw water from the M-9 Superhighway. Additionally, Rescue 1122 personnel serving in flood-affected areas will receive salaries financed through World Bank assistance.

Other approvals included increased project costs for the Nawabshah–Saeedabad road construction, the addition of a drainage system under ADP Scheme No. 3332, and the procurement of essential vaccines for the provincial Health Department.

The committee also cleared schemes from the Works, Culture & Tourism, Climate Change, and Coastal Development departments. However, proposals from departments whose secretaries were absent were deferred until the next meeting, with instructions for mandatory attendance in future sessions.
