The Punjab government has decided to introduce an official university ranking system to raise the standard of higher education across the province.
According to sources, the initiative will evaluate over 60 public and private universities in Punjab, identifying the top 10 institutions based on performance and quality indicators.
This marks the first time the province is introducing a formal and structured university ranking system. The mechanism for ranking will be developed at an estimated cost of Rs. 50 million, with the PC-1 of the project already completed and initial approval currently in process.
Officials said the ranking will become a permanent annual feature, updated each year based on universities’ performance. The results will also guide funding allocations and policy decisions for higher education institutions.
A government spokesperson stated that the new rating system aims to promote educational excellence, healthy competition, and transparency among universities.
