The Punjab Textbook Board has announced that three books published under the Single National Curriculum (SNC) for grades 6, 7, and 8 will be printed in Urdu from the next academic year.
According to the board, the books — History, Geography, and Islamiat Workbook — will now be available in Urdu instead of English.
Officials said students had long demanded Urdu editions. They noted that many students struggled to study these subjects in English, as most had limited command of the language. As a result, they were forced to purchase Urdu translation guides from the market.
Because the books were in English, students also scored lower marks in exams. The board believes that publishing them in Urdu will remove this barrier and improve learning outcomes.
The decision aims to make textbooks easier for students to understand and ensure fair performance in examinations.
