Xiaomi EV Launch in Pakistan Faces Huge Setback

Air Link Communication has confirmed that the launch of Xiaomi electric vehicles in Pakistan will be delayed, as the Chinese tech firm focuses on meeting overwhelming demand in its home market.

The update came during the company’s corporate briefing session, attended by Topline Securities, following the release of Air Link’s Q1 FY26 results.

Management revealed that the local rollout of Xiaomi EVs was initially expected this year, but high domestic demand has forced Xiaomi to prioritize the production of left-hand drive vehicles for China.

As a result, Air Link does not foresee a Pakistan launch in the near term, Topline noted in its investor flash note.

Despite the delay, Air Link continues to engage with the government to obtain export approvals for its products. Once secured, the company expects a significant boost in revenue—potentially over 200%, according to management estimates.

Xiaomi’s electric vehicles made headlines in Pakistan last year when two units of the SU7 Max model were seen at Karachi Port. Air Link CEO Muzzaffar Hayat Piracha later confirmed the imports to Business Recorder, adding that any decisions on local assembly would depend on market conditions and long-term strategy.

Meanwhile, Air Link is preparing to relocate operations to the Sundar Green Special Economic Zone. The company expects to complete the shift by December 2025 or within the first half of FY26. This move, along with tax exemptions, is expected to support stronger earnings performance in the current fiscal year.

Air Link also announced plans to open Pakistan’s first Apple retail store by the end of 2025. A Xiaomi outlet is also in the pipeline at Lahore’s Dolmen Mall. Additionally, the company is onboarding a new mobile brand for manufacturing and is in talks with an international electronics brand to expand into consumer appliances, including air conditioners, washing machines, and microwaves. However, no formal agreement has been finalized.
