The Karachi Traffic Police issued 5,791 electronic challans within 24 hours for various traffic violations, highlighting the department’s ongoing efforts to ensure road safety and enforce traffic rules across the city.
According to traffic police officials, between midnight Wednesday and midnight Thursday, a total of 3,546 e-challans were issued to drivers for not wearing seat belts, while 1,555 motorcyclists were fined for riding without helmets.
Additionally, 325 motorists were penalized for running red lights, 166 for using mobile phones while driving, and 65 for overspeeding.
The department also issued 40 e-challans for tinted windows, 19 for parking in no-parking zones, 13 for driving in the wrong direction, 9 for overloading, and 6 for carrying excessive weight.
A police spokesperson said the e-challan system marks a major step toward ensuring strict compliance with traffic laws and improving monitoring across the city. The spokesperson added that public cooperation is essential for making this system even more effective.
Authorities have urged citizens to follow all traffic rules to maintain smoother traffic flow and reduce road accidents. It is worth noting that in the past four days alone, the number of e-challans issued in Karachi has exceeded 18,733.
