The Punjab government has made it compulsory for all new petrol pumps in the province to install electric vehicle (EV) chargers.
Officials say the decision is part of the province’s strategy designed to ease EV adoption and address worsening air quality in cities like Lahore.
With Lahore frequently topping global rankings for poor air quality, and with rising fuel costs affecting consumers, the government sees EVs as a practical and cleaner alternative.
Officials hope that adding charging points at new fuel stations will lower entry barriers for EV users and reduce the province’s dependence on fossil fuels.
Authorities are expected to release detailed guidelines soon, outlining how fuel station operators will comply with the new decision.

That’s not the major issue at all . The major issue is repairs and maintainence of evs.
Can you take your ev to a local repair man ? No
Can you take them to anyone to fix minor issues ? No
This raises costs and makes people hesitant to buy and maintain ownership of evs. That’s the major issue
This is a misconception. You can absolutely take your EV to local technician. Except stupid proprietary software issues (which also occur with ICEs), there is nothing much to repair in an EV. Motors rarely fail. Motor drivers and power converters are physically repairable with ease. Nothing different than an inverter. Mainly there are software compatibility issues with different chargers etc which requires a standard charger adoption across the board like the EU settled on USB C for phones. Batteries are already being refurbished and reused.
Remember, ICE also has a starter motor and local mechanics do repair starter motors.
Stop the burning of fields by farmers at night. Inspectors should be making rounds of all agricultural lands all over Punjab province to check farmers and kiln owners. That is the most important reason. Next, put all people in buses. Ban the motorcycle and rickshaw. Oil burnt in motorcycles and rickshaws and diesel trucks and buses are the next big cause. Take action on the above step by step seriously, and see the results.
Waou..great job of over lovely C.M sahba..really she is thinking about his work..that’s the big problem for the e.v customer
Thanks
If govt really wants to increase EV adoption with all the associated benefits, it has to make EVs affordable. That means cutting import duties, and local duties and taxes. How come an EV that sells for $20,000 in china Costa over Rs10 million or more ($35,000 plus) in Pakistan? Policy consistency is a pre requisite for getting any thing done.
