Karachi Traffic Police Officials Are Using a Trick to Avoid Getting E-Challans

As Karachi’s new AI-powered e-challan system intensifies its crackdown on traffic violations, the city’s traffic police officers have come up with their own “ingenious” method of avoiding a challan themselves.

A Karachi traffic police officer has come under fire after being filmed riding a motorcycle without a visible number plate near the Expo Center.

The viral video circulating on social media shows the officer on a police-issued motorcycle with the registration plate partially erased, making the digits unreadable for the city’s automated e-challan cameras. The clip also captures the officer turning left while keeping his right indicator on, another clear violation of traffic rules. The officer can be seen carrying an official weapon while on duty.

The footage, recorded by a passerby, has ignited widespread criticism online. Citizens condemned the double standards of traffic officials who routinely fine the public for similar violations but fail to follow the rules themselves. So far, Karachi Traffic Police have not released an official statement regarding the incident.

The new automated system has issued over 26,000 E-Challans in the last six days, including 3,283 in the past 24 hours, under its automated system. Most fines were for seatbelt and helmet violations, red-light jumping, and overspeeding, while no challans were issued for unpaid taxes or fancy number plates.
