Punjab Approves High-Speed Rail Project Between 2 Major Cities

The Punjab Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, has approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the Lahore to Rawalpindi high-speed rail project. The decision was made during a recent cabinet meeting focused on accelerating public service and infrastructure development across the province.

The high-speed rail project aims to connect Lahore and Rawalpindi with a modern, efficient, and rapid transit system. Officials say the new rail line will significantly reduce travel time between the two major cities, boost economic activity, and provide a comfortable alternative to road travel.

The cabinet also approved several other key initiatives, including the establishment of Air Punjab Private Limited, the launch of a cashless QR code strategy for retailers, and the creation of new electric bus depots in multiple cities. However, the high-speed rail project remains a centerpiece of Punjab’s vision for fast, sustainable, and integrated transport.
