The Punjab government has approved a new traffic license points system, introducing stricter consequences for repeated violations on provincial roads.
Under the new framework, every traffic violation will result in a deduction of 2 to 4 points from the driver’s license. Motorists accumulating 20 points within a year will face license suspension ranging from two months to one year, depending on the severity and frequency of offenses.
Traffic officials explained that the points-based system is designed to hold habitual violators accountable. For instance, overspeeding and signal violations will each lead to a deduction of four points, in addition to monetary fines.
The updated traffic rules aim to promote safer driving behavior by linking financial penalties with long-term consequences. Officials believe that this dual-penalty approach will deter reckless driving and improve compliance across the province.
