Sindh Bans Tire Burning to Stop Air Pollution

The Sindh government has officially banned tire burning and pyrolysis plants across the province. According to a newly issued notification, all activities related to tire burning and the operation of pyrolysis units have been prohibited.

The Sindh Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) has been instructed to cancel all No Objection Certificates (NOCs) previously granted to tire pyrolysis plants.

Advisor to the Chief Minister of Sindh, Dost Muhammad Rahimoon, announced that operators have been given a 30-day deadline to shut down their operations or face strict action. Violations of the ban will result in the sealing of plants, heavy fines, and potential closures.

Rahimoon emphasized that the government’s goal is not only to control pollution but also to build a cleaner and healthier environmental system for the province.

Earlier this year, the Punjab Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) uncovered several banned pyrolysis plants secretly operating at night in Lahore, identified as a major cause of the city’s worsening smog.

Drone surveillance revealed that these units, appearing closed during the day, burned old tires after dark to produce fuel. Following the discovery, the EPA, in coordination with the Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA), launched an operation to demolish the illegal plants.
