Huawei Launches Its Own Slim Phone But Its Better Than iPhone Air in Every Way

Huawei has officially introduced the Mate 70 Air, adding a slim model to its lineup of premium smartphones focused on thin and lightweight designs. Much like Motorola’s Moto X70 Air/Edge 70, the Mate 70 Air also beats Apple’s latest slim phone in every way.

Design and Display

The Mate 70 Air features a 6.6mm-thick body and weighs 208 grams. It includes a 7-inch AMOLED screen with a resolution of 2760 × 1320 pixels and supports a 120Hz refresh rate for smooth visuals. Despite its slim frame, the phone is rated IP68 and IP69 for resistance to dust and water. It is available in three finishes: Gold and Silver Brocade, White Feather Robe, and Obsidian Black.

Internals and Software

Huawei is offering two chipset options based on memory configuration. The 12GB RAM variant runs on the Kirin 9020A processor, while the 16GB RAM version uses the Kirin 9020B. Both options come with either 256GB or 512GB of internal storage.

The phone launches with HarmonyOS 5.1, which includes various AI features to improve overall performance and user experience. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.2 with LE, NFC, and Beidou satellite communication. It also features a side-mounted fingerprint scanner and supports Hi-Res audio.

Cameras

On the back, the Mate 70 Air has a quad-camera setup. The primary lens is a 50MP wide-angle sensor with an f/1.8 aperture and optical image stabilization. It is supported by a 12MP RYYB telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom and OIS, an 8MP ultrawide sensor, and a 1.5MP color sensor. For selfies and video calls, the front houses a 10.7MP camera.

Battery and Pricing

Huawei has equipped the Mate 70 Air with a 6,500 mAh battery, which supports 66W wired fast charging. The phone also offers 5W reverse wired charging for powering other devices.

The 12GB RAM with 256GB storage model is priced at approximately $590. The 12GB/512GB and 16GB/256GB variants each cost around $660. The highest-end version with 16GB RAM and 512GB storage is available for roughly $730.
