Karachi Announces New Rules for Heavy Traffic

The Commissioner Karachi Division, Syed Hassan Naqvi, has imposed a complete ban on the movement of heavy vehicles on Jinnah Avenue, from Super Highway (M-9 Karachi–Hyderabad Motorway) near Saima Pari Classic and Rufi Global City up to Malir Halt and Shahrah-e-Faisal.

The decision, issued under Section 144 of the CrPC, aims to ensure smooth traffic flow and improve road safety across the city. The ban was implemented following a request from the Deputy Inspector General of Police (Traffic), Karachi, and recommendations from the Secretary of the Regional Transport Authority (RTA).

According to the notification, heavy traffic must now use the designated alternate route — Link Road (Eastern Bypass) from Kathore, Super Highway (M-9) up to Sassi Toll Plaza, National Highway (N-5). The alternate route will remain open for the movement of heavy vehicles during permitted hours to prevent congestion on major city roads.

The notification also stated that the new amendments will remain in effect for the same duration as the previous order dated October 17, 2025. The decision covers all local limits within Karachi Division and is aimed at ensuring safer, more efficient traffic management in the city.

  • That decision is not implemented right now there is a heavy traffic in Model Colony road please check.

  • First improve the road condition on Jinnah avenue. The road is completely depleted in front of security papers. Ban on heavy traffic is good but to save public from accidents road needs to be plyable. Mr commissioner take a ride from M9 till end at Shahrah e Faisal

  • Notices should be issued in Urdu so that everyone understands specifically truck driver and truck owner. Along with order must display in truck Adda and other designated places for public

  • Pls ensure speed limit and line discipline for heavy traffic as well. Since speed limit in Karachi is fixed at 60 km/h, heavy traffic should not be allowed more than 40 km/h in line with major cities of the world.

  • It is also requested the able authorities to bound heavy traffic to keep on their designated lane, and always keep fast lane free for fast moving of small cars: specially on M9 and other national highways.
As it is strictly implemented on n Punjab, but totally ignored in Sindh and this causes lot of traffic jame and slows down the movement of traffic.

  • Commissioner Karachi is requested to ban the heavy vehicles to run on fast track of roads. Most accidents happened by zig zag running of heavy vehicles day and night on all roads even on 9-M Motor way of Sindh.
Particularly Sohrab Goth to onward. Other provinces have banned it.
    Kindly impose it.
    Thanks & Regards.
