How to Apply for Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship 2026/27

The Government of Hungary has officially opened applications for the Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship 2026/2027. The program invites international students from all partner countries, including Pakistan, to apply for Bachelor’s, Master’s, One-Tier Master’s, PhD, and Non-Degree programs at top Hungarian universities.

Launched in 2013 by the Hungarian Government and coordinated by the Tempus Public Foundation (TPF) under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, this program aims to strengthen international relations and promote Hungary’s higher education worldwide.

Today, more than 30 Hungarian universities participate in the scheme, offering over 800 English-taught programs across a wide range of disciplines, including medicine, engineering, law, business, IT, and the arts.

Featured Programmes and Study Options

Students may apply for up to two different study programs (in order of preference). Available study modes include:

Full-Time Degree Programs

  • Bachelor’s Programs: 2–4 years (BA, BSc)
  • Master’s Programs: 1.5–2 years (MA, MSc)
  • One-Tier Master’s Programs: 5–6 years (Medicine, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Architecture, Law, Veterinary Science, etc.)
  • Doctoral Programs: 2+2 years (PhD)

Non-Degree Programs

  • Preparatory Courses in Hungarian Language: 1 year
  • Postgraduate Specialist Training: 1–2 years (Certificate)
  • Partial Studies: 5–10 months (Exchange Programs)

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship 2026/27, applicants must:

  • Be citizens of a partner country listed under the Partners tab (Pakistan included)
  • Be at least 18 years old by 31 August 2026.
  • Hold a high school diploma (for Bachelor’s) or a relevant Bachelor’s/Master’s degree (for postgraduate programs).
  • Meet language requirements such as English proficiency certified by an international test (IELTS, TOEFL, or university equivalent).
  • Apply through the designated Sending Partner in their home country (applications submitted directly to universities will not be considered).
  • Not hold dual citizenship with Hungary.
  • Applicants already studying in Hungary as self-financed students may reapply only if recommended by their host university and maintain a high academic record.

Scholarship Benefits

Successful candidates receive complete financial support from the Hungarian Government, including:

  • Full Tuition Fee Exemption
  • Monthly Stipend:
    • HUF 43,700/month (Bachelor’s & Master’s students)
    • HUF 140,000/month (Doctoral students, first phase)
    • HUF 180,000/month (Doctoral students, second phase)
  • Free Dormitory Accommodation or a Housing Allowance (HUF 40,000/month)
  • Comprehensive Health Insurance
  • Travel Reimbursement (from Pakistan to Hungary and back)

Documents Required

According to the Official Application Guide 2025/26, applicants must prepare the following documents (in English or with official translations):

  • Online Application Form
  • Educational Certificates (High school/Bachelor’s/Master’s diploma)
  • Transcripts of Records
  • Proof of Language Proficiency (or certificate of instruction medium)
  • Copy of Passport / National ID
  • Motivation Letter (written in English or the language of instruction)
  • Medical Certificate (only required after nomination, submitted by 15 April 2026)
  • Two Letters of Recommendation (for PhD applicants)
  • Research Proposal (for Doctoral programs)
  • Portfolio (for Art applicants)

Note: Applicants without certain documents (like a final diploma or passport) can submit a signed declaration and upload the missing files later (no later than 1 August 2026).

How to Apply

The entire process is online and free of charge.

  1. Check Partner Country Eligibility: Visit the Partners Page to confirm that your country has a bilateral agreement with Hungary and identify your Sending Partner institution.
  2. Choose Your Study Programme: Browse through available degrees using the Study Finder and select up to two programs in order of preference.
  3. Register Online: Create an account on the official application platform.
  4. Complete the Application Form: Fill in your personal data, educational background, and upload all required documents. Make sure all mandatory fields (marked with a red asterisk *) are filled.
  5. Submit to the Sending Partner: Submit your application online and to your country’s Sending Partner authority before their local deadline (some vary by country).
  6. Nomination and Selection: Your Sending Partner will review and nominate eligible candidates. The Tempus Public Foundation and Hungarian universities then conduct an institutional evaluation and final selection.
  7. Medical Examination & Final Acceptance: Nominated candidates must submit a Medical Certificate (issued after 1 November 2025) and await their Letter of Admission from the host university.
