Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip8 Set to Get Much Thinner and Lighter Next Year

Samsung is expected to introduce the Galaxy Z Flip8 alongside the Galaxy Z Fold8 next summer, and a new report from Korea reveals several key details about the upcoming clamshell foldable.

According to the report, Samsung plans to make the Galaxy Z Flip8 at least 10% thinner and lighter than the Flip7. If accurate, the Flip8 could measure around 6mm when opened, 12mm when folded, and weigh about 170g. Samsung reportedly sees the slimmer design as essential for boosting demand for its next-generation foldables.

The company has set a combined sales target of 6.7 million units for the Galaxy Z Flip8 and Galaxy Z Fold8. This push comes after relatively weak sales of the Flip7, which lagged behind expectations. Samsung appears to be using the Flip8’s redesign to deliver a stronger upgrade and improve overall foldable performance.

Recent years have seen Chinese brands prioritize ultra-thin and lightweight foldables, and Samsung is said to be responding to this trend. The report also notes that Samsung is preparing for Apple’s possible entry into the foldable market in 2026.

While Apple’s arrival could expand the overall market, Samsung is reportedly concerned it could draw away some of its customers. A more refined Flip8 is seen as one way to strengthen its position before competition increases.

Earlier this year, the Galaxy Z Fold7 received a noticeable reduction in thickness and weight, whereas the Flip7 remained similar to the Flip6. If the latest information is correct, the Galaxy Z Flip8 will receive a comparable design upgrade in 2025, mirroring the improvements the Fold lineup already enjoyed.
