The federal cabinet has given the green light to a new ferry service that will connect Gwadar with Oman, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs announced on Friday, marking a significant step in Pakistan’s push to expand regional maritime connectivity.
The approval comes shortly after Pakistan issued its first international ferry service license to Sea Keepers, authorizing operations on routes between Pakistan, Iran, and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states.
Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said Pakistan and Oman will soon sign a memorandum of understanding to formally establish the new route. He confirmed that the Gwadar–Oman ferry service is expected to begin operations in the near future.
According to Chaudhry, an Omani delegation will visit Pakistan to finalize technical and operational arrangements. He said the new link will help increase bilateral trade, attract investment, and make travel significantly easier for the large Pakistani community residing in Oman.
The minister added that the ferry service will support tourism and cultural exchange between the two countries, while also contributing to regional connectivity by offering neighboring states greater access to Central Asian markets.
