Faisalabad Launches First Mobile Fuel Testing Lab

Faisalabad’s first-ever mobile fuel testing lab has become fully operational under the Punjab government’s Pollution-Free Division initiative.

Commissioner Raja Jahangir Anwar inspected the mobile unit on Wednesday and reviewed its fuel testing procedures.

He said fuel samples from six petrol stations were tested on the first day, enabling real-time detection of adulterated or poor-quality fuel.

More than 1,000 petrol pumps across the division will be inspected through this mobile lab.

The commissioner said the Punjab government allocated this specialised mobile unit exclusively for Faisalabad, adding that the system can also identify whether the fuel being sold is local or smuggled.

Highlighting the urgency of the initiative, he noted that vehicle emissions are a major cause of smog, placing a heavy burden on the national economy and public health.

He said that alongside dust-control measures, the government is introducing major reforms in fuel quality monitoring.

“Despite millions of vehicles on the road, Punjab did not have a single fuel testing lab until recently,” he said.

Now, three modern laboratories in Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Multan — along with three mobile units — are conducting daily fuel sampling.

He added that Punjab’s new vehicle emission testing system, equipped with 100 analysers and 22 fixed stations in Lahore, has examined over 260,000 vehicles this year.
