Internet Faces Global Blackout as Cloudflare Goes Down

Cloudflare, which is one of the internet’s biggest backbones to date, is facing an outage that has taken down/slowed down a multitude of websites and platforms worldwide. This includes WordPress-based websites, which many online news outlets rely on, as well as social media platform X.

Website outage tracker Downdetector showed thousands of disruption reports worldwide at around 5 PM Pakistan time. Our own ProPakistani website became inaccessible during the outage, and several of our WordPress-based tools were not working either.

Cloudflare is experiencing an internal service degradation. Some services may be intermittently impacted. We are focused on restoring service. We will update as we are able to remediate. More updates to follow shortly.

Soon after, the internet backbone provider provided a positive update saying: “We are seeing services recover, but customers may continue to observe higher-than-normal error rates as we continue remediation efforts.”

This means that while websites and services are slowly starting to recover, it will still take a while before all of the internet is fully back on track. All we can do right now is wait as Cloudflare continues to investigate the issue.
