Doctors Warn Against Misuse of Popular Weight Loss Drug in Pakistan

A rapid increase in Semaglutide use among Pakistani celebrities and public figures has prompted medical experts to sound the alarm. Doctors report that the injectable medication, originally created to help control blood sugar in patients with type two diabetes, is now being used widely for weight loss in ways that are medically unsafe.

Semaglutide slows stomach and intestinal movement, which helps people feel full for longer and reduces appetite. This effect has made it popular for quick weight loss. However, doctors warn that even common side effects such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and diarrhea can become dangerous when the drug is misused.

Experts say many people begin with high doses or take injections several times a week. The recommended starting dose is only zero point two five milligrams once a week.

Doctors warn that using larger or more frequent doses can lead to pancreatitis, thyroid cancer, gallstones, severe dehydration, mood changes, vision problems and worsening diabetic retinopathy.

Reduced food intake combined with dehydration often causes significant physical weakness as well. Plastic surgeons and general surgeons confirm that misuse of Semaglutide is rising quickly among celebrities, who are seeking rapid changes in appearance.

They stress that the drug can be effective only when a qualified doctor supervises the treatment. Without proper medical guidance, Semaglutide can cause serious and long term health complications.
