The Pakistan Super League is set for the biggest expansion in its history, with the league officially announcing the auction date for two new PSL franchises.
This development comes after the PSL completed the market valuations of the current franchises and the league’s commercial assets, paving the way for its expansion.
The league will officially welcome two new franchises on 6 January 2026 and only bidders who meet the required technical criteria will be invited to participate in the January auction, ensuring the inclusion of serious and capable franchise owners.
The development marks a major step forward for the PSL’s long-discussed expansion plans, as the league continues to strengthen its nationwide footprint and commercial reach. The addition of two new teams is expected to reshape the tournament’s dynamics, create fresh rivalries, and offer more opportunities for young cricketers across the country.
As part of the pre-auction process, the PCB has finalized a shortlist of six cities from which bidders will be allowed to choose: Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Hyderabad, Sialkot, Muzaffarabad, and Gilgit. Once the auction concludes, the successful parties will have the right to select any of the shortlisted city names as their official franchise identity.
The PCB and PSL management expressed excitement over welcoming new stakeholders into the PSL ecosystem, emphasizing that the league’s growth reflects Pakistan cricket’s broader ambitions on and off the field.
With the auction date set, the addition of two new franchises will not only broaden PSL’s reach but also provide more playing opportunities for emerging talent, a key factor in Pakistan’s depth-building efforts across all formats.
