Nothing is Bringing AirDrop to Its Phones After Google’s Surprise Move

Google confirmed yesterday that Android’s Quick Share now works with Apple’s AirDrop, but only on the new Pixel 10 series. The feature allows users of Google’s latest phones to send and receive files directly with Apple devices, something that previously wasn’t possible.

Google has not said whether this cross-platform sharing will expand to other Android brands. In the past, some Pixel-exclusive features eventually reached all Android devices, but Google has not made any promises this time.

Nothing Responds to Google’s Announcement

Shortly after Google revealed the feature, Nothing CEO Carl Pei said the company is already looking into how it can bring the same AirDrop compatibility to Nothing phones. Pei did not share technical details or a timeline, but confirmed that work has started.

Nothing’s interest shows how significant this breakthrough could be for Android manufacturers. Seamless sharing between Android and Apple devices has been one of the biggest gaps in cross-platform usability.

How Google’s System Works

Google’s implementation requires no extra steps. When sending a file from Android to an Apple device, the iPhone or iPad appears directly in Quick Share. When sending the other way, Android phones appear in AirDrop. The connection is direct and peer-to-peer.

Nothing has confirmed whether its own version would work in the same way, but users will be hoping for a similarly simple experience.
