Pakistan’s shift toward solar energy continued to accelerate in May 2026, with net-metered electricity reaching one of its highest levels on record.
According to Arif Habib Limited, net-metered electricity accounted for 4.1 percent of total power generation in May 2026, up 105 basis points from a year earlier.
The latest data shows net-metering generation remained near record levels despite a 9.5 percent month-on-month decline, following exceptionally high output in April.
Overall electricity generation, however, fell 0.9 percent year-on-year in May. Even so, NEPRA expects Pakistan’s electricity demand to grow by around 1 percent during calendar year 2026.
