Nothing OS 4.0 Starts Rolling Out with Android 16 – Here’s What’s New

Nothing has started rolling out Nothing OS 4.0, its Android 16–based update, after several weeks of beta testing. The rollout begins with the Nothing Phone (3), while other Nothing and CMF devices will receive the update later. The company has not given a specific timeline for those models.

Phone (3) Exclusive Features

The update for the Phone (3) adds deeper Flip to Glyph controls, a refined Pocket Mode, and two new Glyph Toys called Hourglass and Lunar Cycle. The Mirror Selfie feature now allows users to save the original photo as an additional image in the Gallery.

System-Wide Changes in Nothing OS 4.0

Nothing OS 4.0 also introduces a larger set of improvements that will extend to other devices:

  • Live Updates now show ride, delivery, and timer information directly on the lock screen and the Glyph Interface. Any app that supports Android 16’s Live Updates can integrate with Glyph Progress.
  • Extra Dark Mode deepens blacks, improves contrast, reduces power use, and brings a calmer look to notifications, quick settings, and the app drawer. It now extends to Nothing’s Essential Space and Launcher.
  • Improved System Motion gives touch, swipe, and gesture actions a more responsive feel. App open and close animations have been refined, and haptic feedback now appears at volume limits.
  • New Widget Sizes (1×1 and 2×1) are available for Weather, Pedometer, and Screen Time.
  • Pop-up View allows two floating apps to be opened at the same time with gesture controls to switch, minimize, or expand.
  • Hidden Icons let users hide apps from the app drawer while keeping them accessible with a swipe.

The update is rolling out in stages, so Phone (3) owners who have not yet received the notification should see it arrive within the next few days.
