Google Assistant’s Death Date Revealed Via Official Documents

Google Assistant has long served as the default way to control Google phones and other apps through voice commands. It allowed users to make calls, set timers and alarms, and complete many tasks using only their voice.

Google has been planning to replace Assistant with its more advanced Gemini AI model, and the transition now appears to have a firm deadline.

Updated support documents show that Google has set Google Assistant’s final retirement for March 2026. A banner on the support forum states that Assistant will remain available “until March 2026.” After that, any remaining Assistant features are expected to shift to Gemini across Android phones, Android Auto, Google TV, and other compatible devices.

Google’s plan to phase out Assistant has been clear for months. Gemini has already begun replacing Assistant on Android Auto and on the Google TV Streamer. Google has also spoken publicly about its goal of moving users to Gemini.

Gemini offers more capabilities, and Google has gradually removed features from Google Assistant over the years. As Gemini improves, including easier access to Gemini Live, it is becoming a stronger competitor in the race to become the dominant voice assistant.

Some Google Home devices still rely on Google Assistant, but the reduced features and inconsistent performance have increased the push for a full transition to Gemini. Google Home is now receiving Gemini integration across testing accounts, and the system is beginning to feel more functional again.
