The stage is set for another Pakistan and India blockbuster after both teams were drawn into Group A of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 and India’s captain, Suryakumar Yadav, wasted little time in adding intrigue, offering a pointed remark that hinted at his side’s confidence against their arch-rivals.
The two nations will meet on February 15 in Colombo, their first World Cup clash since the 2025 Asia Cup. That tournament was dominated by India, who prevailed in all three encounters amid a backdrop of tension and controversy. From awkward post-match handshakes to Suryakumar Yadav’s refusal to accept the winner’s trophy from PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, the rivalry carried drama well beyond the boundary.
Speaking at the schedule unveiling, the explosive Indian batter recalled the Asia Cup with an unmistakable jab. “We played them recently during the Asia Cup and we had a good time. Everything was completely focused on cricket, nothing else as you must have seen. I’m sure it will be a good game. Boys are always excited to play Pakistan,” he said.
It was not the first time Suryakumar Yadav downplayed the challenge posed by Pakistan. During the Asia Cup earlier this year, he dismissed the rivalry as “dead,” citing India’s sustained dominance on the field. On Tuesday, he reinforced that mindset by revealing the opponent he most anticipates in the World Cup final: “Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad — Australia.”
With the historic rivalry now set for a primetime stage in Colombo, anticipation is already building. February 15 promises to deliver another compelling chapter in Pakistan–India cricketing history, where the weight of legacy and the intensity of competition will once again converge.
