The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Department of Education has changed school timings in four districts after a rise in accidents linked to dense morning fog. The new schedule applies to Charsadda, Mardan, Swabi, and Nowshera.
According to the Directorate of Education, the decision follows a recent accident in Charsadda in which a school bus collided with another vehicle, injuring dozens of children. Officials said the shift aims to prioritize student safety during hours when visibility drops sharply.
Under the new directive, all government schools in the affected districts will start at 9 am instead of 8 am. Each class period will also be shortened by five minutes to accommodate the revised schedule.
The department said the timing change will remain in place as long as fog conditions continue to pose risks for early morning travel.
