Punjab to Transform Over 440 Rural Areas into ‘Model Villages’

The Punjab government has announced plans to transform 443 villages across the province as part of the “Model Village” initiative launched under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s rural development agenda.

Provincial Minister for Local Government, Zeeshan Rafique, shared the details while reviewing progress on the large-scale project designed to improve infrastructure and essential services in rural areas.

According to the minister, the first phase of the initiative will cover 224 villages, with construction and development activities expected to begin by mid-December.

Rafique outlined the regional distribution for this initial rollout:

  • 36 villages in Sargodha
  • 40 villages in Sahiwal
  • 53 villages in Gujranwala
  • 46 villages in Gujrat
  • 62 villages in Multan
  • 36 villages in Dera Ghazi Khan
  • 46 villages across Lahore and Sheikhupura
  • 46 in Rawalpindi
  • 47 in Bahawalpur
  • 31 in Faisalabad

These areas will receive improved municipal facilities along with enhanced infrastructure to uplift living standards for residents.

The minister stated that the first phase is planned to conclude within ten months, directly benefiting an estimated 3.4 million people living in these rural communities.

He reiterated that the project aims to bring tangible improvements to everyday life in Punjab’s small towns, reducing disparities between rural and urban regions.

  • If these activities are not made conditional to the common people of the society to have access to justice as the equal genders with equal rights and to be heard and counted in the law and the policy making procedures these activities may in the longer terms pose and help in creating more poverty because their taxes are not utilized for the vanishing and reducing the poverty in the society.
