Huawei has introduced its first AI-powered emotional-companion pet, Smart Hanhan, during the Mate 80 series event. The product became available on Huawei Mall for $56, and all three color options sold out shortly after launch.
Design and Interaction Features
Smart Hanhan is designed as a small plush companion focused on emotional support rather than entertainment. It measures 80 x 68 x 82 millimeters and weighs 140 grams without its limbs. Huawei uses plush fabric, silicone, plastic, and internal electronics to create a soft and expressive device.
The companion device is powered by Huawei’s Xiaoyi large-model AI system. It can hold natural conversations, respond to emotional cues, and adjust its replies based on tone and context. Hanhan reacts to voice, touch, and movement. Tapping or stroking its head changes facial expressions, while shaking the toy triggers excited reactions.
Battery Life and Connectivity
Smart Hanhan includes a 1,800mAh battery that provides six to eight hours of continuous interaction. Under normal daily use, the device can last more than 48 hours on a single charge. A full recharge takes around six hours.
The AI companion works with HarmonyOS 5.0 or newer and is compatible with devices such as the Mate 80, Mate 80 Pro, Mate X7, and Mate 80 RS. When paired with a smartphone, the system creates an emotional diary that records conversations and daily interactions as memory entries. Buyers also receive a three-month SVIP membership offering unlimited conversation “energy points.”
