Lahore Metro Bus Green Line is Getting Major Upgrades

The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has launched a major rehabilitation and solarisation project for the Lahore Metro Bus Green Line, approving a Rs2.44 billion upgrade for the 27-kilometer corridor from Gajjumatta to Shahdara.

The authority has initiated the program to modernize station infrastructure, mechanical systems, and commuter facilities across the route.

According to tender documents, LDA divided the project into four packages for phased execution. The Gajjumatta to Chungi Amar Sidhu section carries an estimated cost of Rs. 611.5 million, while the Ghazi Road to Kalma Chowk stretch will cost Rs. 542.7 million.

The Canal Station to MAO College upgrades will cost Rs. 711.8 million, and the Civil Secretariat to Niazi Chowk improvements will require Rs. 577.3 million. LDA officials said the project focuses on architectural repairs, structural rehabilitation, and modernization of passenger amenities.

The plan includes refurbishing stations, replacing damaged glazing, installing new louvres, updating flooring, and adding fresh signage. Crews will apply new interior and exterior coatings to improve durability and appearance.

A key component of the initiative is the installation of inverter rooms to enable the solarisation of multiple stations. Officials said the shift to solar energy will lower operational costs and reduce reliance on the national grid.
