The European Union has pledged an additional €3 million in emergency aid to assist communities in Pakistan affected by this year’s devastating monsoon floods, with priority support targeting the hardest-hit districts in Punjab.
The fresh funding aims to help millions who are struggling to recover after the record-breaking rains displaced families, destroyed homes, and ruined farmland.
In a statement, the EU confirmed that the aid will be provided as direct cash assistance, enabling vulnerable households to cover urgent needs and begin rebuilding their lives.
This latest contribution follows earlier relief measures. In September, the EU mobilized €1.05 million to provide healthcare, clean water, sanitation, and other essential services for affected communities.
The scale of destruction from this year’s monsoon has been immense, impacting nearly 7 million people, displacing around 2.9 million, and claiming more than 1,000 lives. The floods also damaged over 200,000 homes and caused severe losses to agriculture across the country.
EU Commissioner for Preparedness, Crisis Management and Equality, Hadja Lahbib, emphasized the critical need for urgent support and reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to helping flood-hit communities recover.
