Islamabad Starts Installing M-Tag Readers

The Islamabad Capital Territory administration and police have begun installing advanced M-Tag readers across key points in the federal capital. Officials say the system will detect vehicles traveling without an M-Tag and allow enforcement teams to take immediate action.

Deputy Commissioner Irfan Memon and the Director General of Safe City inspected several sites on Monday to review installation progress. They examined how the devices operate and discussed steps needed to ensure smooth enforcement once the system goes live.

The deputy commissioner said police teams stationed nearby will stop vehicles flagged by the readers. He urged motorists to obtain their M-Tag as soon as possible to avoid inconvenience or legal trouble during the enforcement phase.

To support the rollout, the administration has opened 10 facilitation centers in high traffic areas where residents can register their vehicles for the M-Tag. Officials say the centers were placed strategically to make the process easy and accessible.

Authorities noted that once the system becomes fully operational, vehicles found on the road without an M-Tag could face heavy fines or be taken to police stations.  The Safe City team is also completing technical integration to ensure accurate vehicle identification across the city’s surveillance network.
