Islamabad’s administration has issued new instructions for vehicle emission testing, introducing annual inspections and fresh requirements for older vehicles. The update follows last week’s expansion of testing locations across the federal capital.
According to Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon, citizens can now undergo emission inspections on Saturdays until 4 PM. He said the testing requirement applies only to vehicles manufactured in 2015 or earlier.
Every vehicle in this category must be inspected once a year, and authorities will issue a new clearance sticker after each successful test.
Earlier, the Islamabad Transport Authority increased the number of inspection points from one to four. Drivers can now get their vehicles tested at D-Chowk, Lake View Park, F-9 Park, and Metro Cash & Carry.
The DC personally visited all inspection sites and urged citizens to complete the process on time. The administration has asked motorists to cooperate with testing teams and ensure that their vehicles meet emission standards.

To copy the West, we need the brains. Emission control of vehicles cannot be done in isolation. There are a dozen other factors besides the quality of the fuel available in Pakistan. Unpaved dusty roads, heaps of garbage and uncontrolled construction are some of the other factors.

Never mind other factors….it has to start somewhere. Vehicle emissions are one of the largest contributors to green house gases. That said, the administration needs to work on other factors, mentioned above, as well for a comprehensive effort to clean environment.

Vehicles emission is directly linked to the adulterated fuel supplied by state enterprises and refineries still providing and producing euro 2 standard fuel instead of euro 4, which is the main cause of smoke emissions in vehicles.

These initiatives are nice because there are vehicles that outright emit smog. Its disgusting.
Massive taxes to fill the belly of rulers have raised vehicle prices a lot more than vehicle prices around the world forcing people to use old vehicles which will ofcourse emit pollution. Rulers want a clean pollution free environment but massive tax returns on vehicles at the same time..Alongside this, they provide poor roads, poor fuels, and everything substandard. Considering this, these tests are a slap on the face of poor people increasing class distinction in this already unjust banana republic. For example, in developing countries like India, Alto vehicle is available in 10 to 12 lak Pakistani Rs. while its price in Pakistan is very high. Pakistan is earning more taxes and profits than that of Japan on each vehicle but Japan manufacturs vehicles and Pakistan does nothing except for creating trouble for people. It’s an eye opener….
