CDA Announces Major Upgrades for Markets Across Islamabad

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has initiated a major rehabilitation and upgradation project for Islamabad’s old residential sectors and key commercial centers.

The CDA Engineering Wing presented the detailed plan during a review meeting held at CDA Headquarters, chaired by Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa. The initiative aims to restore major roads, markets, pedestrian infrastructure, and essential municipal services across the city.

In the first phase, the MPO Directorate will undertake complete recarpeting of the city’s busiest commercial hubs, including Blue Area, F-6 Super Market, and F-7 Jinnah Super Market. Rehabilitation of all streets in Sector I-14 and the upgrading of roads and lanes in the D-12 Markaz are also part of the initial plan.

Major roads and service roads in Sector E-12 will similarly be carpeted during the first stage of the project. Briefings noted that the citywide restoration and upgradation plan will be executed in phases to ensure timely improvements across all sectors and commercial centers.

On the directions of the CDA Chairman, work has already begun on restoring zebra crossings on several major roads. Zebra crossings near hospitals, educational institutions, and high-traffic avenues are being prioritized to improve pedestrian safety.

Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa instructed that top-quality material and strict compliance with standards must be ensured for the restoration of zebra crossings. He also directed the Engineering Wing to carry out patchwork across roads, streets, and markets where required, in addition to detailed road carpeting.

Under the broader plan, existing footpaths will be repaired and new footpaths will be constructed. Damaged streetlights and poles will be fixed, and new ones will be installed as needed.

The upgradation plan also includes installation of signage boards, construction of speed breakers, and improvement of sewerage and drainage systems across various sectors. Special focus will be given to covering manholes and rehabilitating essential service lines.

Officials briefed that surveys of all roads, streets, markets, and commercial centers have already been completed. The CDA Chairman emphasized utilizing internal resources for the rehabilitation program. The meeting was attended by Member Engineering, DG Works, and officers from the Engineering Wing.
