Islamabad Police’s Safe City Project is a Death Trap for Public

Islamabad’s much-hyped Safe City Project has made the daily commute ironically very “unsafe,” especially for night-time commuters.

The Islamabad Traffic Police allowed a crane installing Safe City cameras to operate directly on the fast lane of the Expressway near the I-8 checkpost toward Faizabad, without placing warning signs, alert lights, or any prior traffic advisory.

The result was deadly.

Late at night, a Suzuki FX smashed straight into the crane, with initial reports confirming the driver never saw the machinery blocking the lane. Moments later, a Black Toyota Revo plowed into the already wrecked FX, compounding the crash. One person was killed, crushed between the Revo and the crane.

Witnesses and rescue teams say the police provided no cones, no barricades, no diversions, no lighting, and no announcements to alert vehicles approaching at high speed. Drivers on the fast lane were essentially unaware, heading toward heavy machinery placed in the middle of an active highway.

  • More egg on the face of incompetent Islamabad Administration.

I complained multiple times on Citizen Portal about CDA using a water tanker to water the plants in the dividers on Islamabad Expressway without any lane closures, traffic cones or warning lights placed in the fast lane. I even provided dashcam footage, but they closed the complaint every time saying they would take action but they never did anything.

Now it has resulted in the death of a person….
