Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced that over Rs. 300 billion will be spent on the construction and repair of roads, parks, drainage, and sewerage systems in 52 cities under the Punjab Development Plan (PDP).
Chairing a meeting in Lahore, Maryam Nawaz directed officials to prioritize construction and repair work in the most deteriorated and dilapidated areas before the monsoon season.
Authorities briefed the chief minister that development work under the first phase of PDP will formally begin on 19 December 2025, while major projects are expected to be completed by 30 June 2026.
They informed her that projects worth Rs. 166 billion have already been approved under the first-phase outlay of Rs. 304 billion.
Authorities further shared that 50 tenders have been issued, of which 10 have been finalized, enabling the launch of 10 major projects worth Rs. 53.5 billion in the coming days.
Officials also briefed the chief minister that under the Punjab Development Plan, 3,497 km of sewerage lines will be laid, 181 km of drainage networks will be developed, and 56 new disposal stations will be constructed.
In addition, 61 existing disposal stations will be upgraded, increasing the total water-handling capacity to 2,114 cusecs.
Authorities stated that Phase-I of the programme covers ten cities where projects worth Rs. 53 billion will be launched immediately.
The development work will later expand to 43 more cities, where sewerage, drainage, parks, and street-rehabilitation projects worth Rs. 304 billion will be carried out.
