Sindh to Launch E-Challan System for Hotels and Restaurants

The Sindh government has decided to introduce an e-challan system in the Sindh Food Authority (SFA), following the successful model implemented in traffic management.

The decision was made during a meeting between Sindh Minister for Food Mehboob-uz-Zaman and PPP Women’s Wing Chairperson Faryal Talpur, during which officials briefed both leaders on online registration, complaint handling, and digital challan operations.

The food minister said that digitizing SFA will ensure more efficient, transparent, and citizen-friendly services.

He also informed Faryal Talpur about the department’s recent crackdown on substandard food and briefed her on the updated vet stock policy.

Earlier this year, the Sindh Food Authority conducted a major raid at a renowned five-star hotel in Karachi, uncovering serious food safety violations.

Inspectors seized 25 kilograms of expired meat, old buttercream, and other substandard items.

The kitchen and washing areas were found in poor hygienic conditions, raising substantial public health concerns.

Following the discovery, the SFA filed a case in the South Civil Judge’s Court, stressing the need for stricter enforcement and stronger accountability within the food sector.
