Punjab government administrative reforms are set to bring major changes to the working of government colleges, as the Higher Education Department has proposed granting financial powers of up to Rs. 10 million to College Management Councils.
Sources said the Higher Education Department has already sent a detailed summary to the provincial cabinet, highlighting that the existing College Management Councils have failed to perform effectively.
The proposed reforms aim to strengthen decision-making at the college level and improve daily administrative operations.
Under the new plan, colleges will be allowed to make local financial and administrative decisions, reducing delays caused by centralized approvals. Officials believe this step will help institutions address urgent needs more efficiently.
As part of the restructuring, the College Management Councils will be expanded, with increased representation and stricter monitoring mechanisms. Authorities said accountability measures will be introduced to ensure proper use of funds.
Education officials said these Punjab government administrative reforms would help resolve long-standing issues faced by colleges and improve facilities for both students and teachers.
The new councils are expected to play a stronger role in improving academic environments across the province.
