The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has sought approval from the Punjab government to construct a dual carriageway linking the Chak Beli Khan interchange of the Rawalpindi Ring Road with the GT Road. The proposed project carries an estimated cost of Rs. 2.123 billion.
According to senior RDA officials, the authority plans to build an 11-kilometer dual road to improve access between the Ring Road and GT Road. The link road aims to facilitate smoother movement for commuters entering the Ring Road.
Officials said the Ring Road would deliver its intended benefits only if key link roads received proper development. The Rawalpindi Ring Road spans 38.3 kilometers and includes five interchanges at Baanth, Chak Beli Khan, Adiala Road, Chakri Road, and Thalian. Construction work on these interchanges continues and is nearing completion.
The RDA has already secured approval for development work on Adiala Road and Girja Road, and the Communication and Works Department will begin construction soon. Officials confirmed that the Chak Beli Khan link road proposal will move to the Punjab Planning and Development Department for final approval.
Authorities said the Ring Road project has achieved 76 percent completion. The project aims to divert heavy freight traffic away from city roads, reduce congestion on GT Road, and improve connectivity to major routes, including the motorway and the New Islamabad International Airport.
