Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar has announced the formation of a high-level committee to review public concerns surrounding the e-challan system, saying the government will amend traffic laws if it finds the existing fine structure unjust.
Addressing the Sindh Assembly, Lanjar said the government aims to balance strict enforcement with public convenience and fairness.
He responded to objections raised by the opposition leader and stated that authorities will consult all stakeholders to improve the e-challan system, which authorities are expanding in phases across Hyderabad and other districts to modernize traffic management.
The home minister clarified that the government does not intend to raise revenue through fines but wants to promote road discipline and awareness. He announced that the committee will include members from both the Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan and the Pakistan Peoples Party.
Lanjar said he will personally chair the committee and has directed the home secretary to issue the formal notification. The committee will hold its first meeting on December 15.
It will examine public complaints, transparency issues, traffic regulation practices, and the structure of fines. Lanjar said the government will consider revising penalties if the committee recommends changes to ensure justice and public ease.
