Punjab Sets License-Issuing Record

Punjab has set a new national record by issuing more than 2 million driving licenses in just 18 days, following directives from the Chief Minister of Punjab, officials said on Friday.

According to a Punjab Traffic Police spokesperson, over 940,000 citizens obtained learning licenses, while more than 360,000 people received fresh regular driving licenses during the period.

In addition, over 700,000 licenses, including learning, regular, and international licenses, were renewed.

The province also issued more than 2,000 international driving permits, while over 7,000 lost licenses were successfully reissued.

Officials said the online home-based licensing portal played a key role in achieving the milestone, with 1.14 million citizens using the digital service to apply for or renew their licenses.

DIG Traffic Punjab Muhammad Waqas Nazir warned that driving without a license is a punishable offence, stressing that violators face heavy fines and strict legal action.

He added that trained and licensed drivers have contributed to a noticeable decline in traffic accidents across the province.

The DIG said traffic police are actively raising awareness about the importance of licensing and urged citizens to use licensing centres, service centres, and the online portal.

He also advised motorists to download their e-driving license, noting that it carries the same legal validity as the physical card.
