Authorities have installed m-tag readers at 11 locations and cameras at 14 points across the federal capital.
Police said the Safe City Authority supervised the installation of the readers and cameras to read m-tags that the Frontier Works Organization installs on vehicles with the facilitation of the capital administration.
Authorities installed m-tag readers and cameras at Adventure Inn Garden Avenue, Gandum Godown on IJP Road, Faizabad, NADRA Headquarters, N5 Margalla Iran Avenue, Bari Imam, T-Cross, Marriott Hotel, D-Chowk, G-14 N5 entry, Zero Point, and Ninth Avenue.
Authorities also installed cameras at the Foreign Office, Bhara Kahu Bridge, and the E-9 entry. The Safe City Authority linked the readers and cameras to its system and mounted them on newly installed poles to scan vehicle m-tags and registration plates.
All cameras are online except those installed at the E-9 entry at PAF. The system scans m-tags and registration plates and issues alerts in case of mismatches. It also identifies vehicles operating without an m-tag.
Earlier, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said authorities will not allow any vehicle to enter Islamabad without an e-tag. He made the statement while speaking to the media outside the Judicial Complex after a suicide attack there on November 11.
