Senior PML-N leader and former federal minister Khurram Dastgir Khan has announced that he will donate his corneas after his death so that visually impaired patients can regain their sight.
Khurram Dastgir visited the Ophthalmology Department of Gujranwala Medical College, where he met five patients who had lost their vision due to corneal disease. These patients recently underwent successful corneal transplant surgeries and have now had their eyesight restored.
The surgeries were performed under the supervision of Professor Dr. Irfan Qayyum Malik, who leads the ophthalmology team at Gujranwala Medical College.
According to the college, a total of 161 corneal transplant procedures have been successfully completed under his leadership so far, a milestone described locally as a significant achievement for Gujranwala’s public health sector.
During the visit, Khurram Dastgir Khan praised the medical team and, in a gesture he termed a “humanitarian duty,” announced that, with the will of Allah, his corneas will be donated after his passing so that others living in darkness can experience the light of vision.
He also appealed to the public to come forward and participate in this cause by pledging their own corneas for donation, stressing that such contributions can transform the lives of those who have lost their sight.
