A British court has formally praised Pakistani teenager Abdullah Tanoli and granted him a £1,000 cash award for intervening during a knife attack in Leicester Square.
The incident happened last August while Abdullah worked a security shift at a local shop. He spotted a man with a knife threatening an 11-year-old girl.
Abdullah moved in immediately. Then, with help from other security staff, he restrained the attacker and kept him under control until police arrived.
During the hearing, the judge commended Abdullah’s bravery and fast response. The court ordered that a public fund pay him £1,000.
The judge also directed authorities to move the attacker, Pun Pantaro, to a high-security mental health facility.
Since the attack, Abdullah has gained recognition across Britain. People have described him as a local hero, and he has received multiple awards for his actions.
